REFLECTION: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sadly, actions by the Supreme Court and the Justice Department have weakened and, in some instances, turned back the clock on the hard-fought accomplishments of the Civil Rights struggle to which Dr. King gave such inspirational leadership. The current political climate fosters division and conflict in an atmosphere of intolerance and incivility.

As we commenorate the life and legacy of Dr. King, let us not give in to doubt or despair because of what we have experienced over the past months. We are undergirded by out faith in God and the wisdom of the founding fathers as examplified in the United States Constitution. May we be inpired anew by these words from a speech given by Dr. King on the steps of the Alabama state capital on March 25, 1965: "Like an idea whose time has come, not even the marching of mighty armies can halt us. We are moving to the land of freedom.

How long? Not long, because no lie can live forever.

How long? Not long, because you shall reap what you sow.

How Long? Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but bends toward justice."

May it be so.
