It’s a Field Day – Saturday May 19, 9 am to 4 pm.... and it’s a Work Party on the grounds of the Disciples Crystal Conference Center on Crystal Lake near Frankfort.
Here’s your first chance to breathe in the freshness of Crystal Lake, grasp the visual beauty of Crystal Conference Center … AND … help us get rid of that pesky Garlic Mustard in anticipation of lots of campers this summer.
We’ll gather at Oaks Lodge to launch our annual season of Garlic Mustard pulling. Enjoy a brisk tramp in the woods, surrounded by the beauty of birdsong and spring wildflower blooms at their peak.
We’ll provide educational resources and water supplies. Overnight accommodations are available. Please call the Disciples Regional Office for overnight needs, 517-372-3220..
A second Garlic Mustard Pull is set for Sunday Afternoon, May 27 also.
Send an email or call the Regional Office to let us know you will help out May 19 and/or May 27 and how many you will be bringing.
The Garlic Mustard Field Day is sponsored by the Crystal Commission and Crystal Beach Cottager’s Association, in partnership The Stewardship Network’s Garlic Mustard Challenge and Northwest Michigan Cooperative Weed Management Area.
Michigan Disiciples are invited to be part of regional work projects by joining in the upcoming “The Gospel in Action” work program from 8:30 am Saturday May 26 through 3:00 pm Monday May 28. In that short time we look forward to help weatherize 25-50 families homes in the Detroit area.
All ages are welcome to participate. Work days begin with breakfast and devotions at 7:30 am followed by seven to eight hours at the worksites, including lunch break. Three meals are included in the registration cost of $100, as well as lodging building matierials and a T-shirt. One day registration is available for $35.

On February 25th Bruce Barkhauer, the Minister of Faith and Giving for the Disciples, and the preacher for the most recent East District Assembly, will be at Central Woodward for two related but separate seminars (with lunch in the middle).
As you'll see from the attachments, the morning event is focused on stewardship education and is especially pertinent for church leadership. The second session, in the afternoon, is focused on Personal Finance, which we all need to think about. We're hoping this would be especially useful for young adults and young families.
We would ask you to share with your faith communities. We would appreciate RSVPs, especially for lunch.
I look forward to seeing many of you on the 25th!!
Saturday, February 11, 2012, the Crazy Teens for Christ Youth Group invite the community to our Annual Spaghetti Dinner at Cowden Lake Christian Church, corner of Coral and Gravel Ridge Roads. Serving times are from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Menu includes Spaghetti, salad, garlic toast, deserts and beverage. A free will offering will be taken. All proceeds from this event go towards the groups, "Fast that Lasts". This is a fund raiser that benefits those in need while raising awareness of hunger and other related issues, as the youth will fast for 30 hours. Seventy-five percent of proceeds raised go to help those in need through "Week of Compassion" the remaining 25% stays right here in our own community, going to the Lakeview Area Food Bank. Come and enjoy the food, and help someone out at the same time.
This seminar - 9am to Noon - for congregational stewardship leaders is being offered at no cost by Central Woodward Christian Church, Troy, MI with Rev. Bruce A. Barkhauer, Minister for Faith and Giving for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the presenter. It will offer a comprehensive look at both the Biblical/Theological themes and the “best practices” that combine to proclaim the abundance of God and create generous faith communities. Persons attending this workshop will be equipped with texts that inform our faith around the multi-faceted issue of stewardship (it is about more than just money!) so that we move beyond giving that is motivated by guilt or a “give to get” theology. Participants will also learn the key policy and practice issues that enable people to practice generosity and keep the congregation focused on its mission and ministry (rather than “meeting the budget” concerns).
This workshop is being offered at no cost to participants, though participants are invited to provide a donation to defray travel costs. In addition, a light lunch of soup and sandwiches will be served after the workshop for a $5 donation. A Personal Finance workshop will follow after lunch.
