Week of Compassion has connected with After the Storm, a local organization working on flood recovery. They are part of a coalition (Metro Detroit Flood Recovery) that is hosting a volunteer blitz October 1-7, and they are seeking volunteers who can serve during that week (for a single day, for a few days, or for the full week). Interested volunteers can email Cheryl Tipton (ctipton@afterthestormmi.org) to sign up or for more information.

  • Volunteers must be 16+
  • No special skills required; volunteers should be physically able to navigate stairs and lift moderate weight.
  • Bring:
    • N95 or respirator, rubber gloves; other tools and supplies will be provided.
    • Lunch.
    • Water.
  • Wear: long pants and long-sleeve shirt, closed toe shoes.
  • Groups will meet at the After the Storm office and be assigned work sites.

Housing is available, if volunteers are interested in coming for multiple days and do not want to commute. Dorms (including sleeping quarters, a kitchen, and showers) at Metropolitan United Methodist Church and Calvary United Methodist Church are $10/person/night.

Alternative or additional volunteer dates can be arranged directly with Cheryl Tipton.
