“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
When First Christian Church Battle Creek suffered the devastating loss as the result of embezzlement, it was the time for the Regional church to respond to the unspoken Macedonian call to come to the aid of a sister congregation.
Congregations and individuals responded with amazing generosity. All of the detailed, time consuming effort that was required to provide the information required by the police department and the prosecutor’s office proved to be a grueling, draining experience for those few from the congregation that were involved. Because of the financial support received, the lights were on to enable them to do their work.
The events of the past months have taken a toll on the leadership and the members of the congregation. It became clear that an honest assessment of their viability was necessary. Belinda King, of Disciple Church Extension Fund, shared the findings of the demographic study that was done of the community around the church which indicated a very limited potential for growth.
After much prayer and discussion, the congregation has made the difficult decision bring their ministry to a close December 31, 2019. The have the resources that will allow for a reverent, orderly transition process. Please continue to pray for Pastor Kingery, the leadership, and the members.
Eugene James,
Regional Minister
